Vintage French textiles have long been considered the finest for furnishing and decorating; With
silk and cotton cargoes coming from the East to their many ports, they had a huge and early choice of materials.
They were also able to use the skills of the German scientists at Mulhouse, who produced many of the chemicals used
for fast dyes; adding to that the many skilled illustrators, like Huet and Pillement, late 18thC., they were able to
manufacture enormous amounts of decorative cloths for clothing and furnishing. The centres at Lyons, Paris, Rouen and
elsewhere, employed huge work -forces and the fabrics were exported all over the Western world. Some of the
Huguenots brought their skills to England and factories were set up in London at Spitalfields and elsewhere.
I always keep a big stock in all colours and all sizes and for all uses! My stock changes fast and I have many
examples to show in my own house.
