Old toile, faded ginghams, bed and sofa covers in silk, satin and prints. Loot from a
French chateau. Selling from £10 per item!! Need the space!.
In April, at a big French trade fair, I came across a huge pile of textiles all mixed and being tipped
out on a patch of gravel. They had come from the stable block of a chateau near Soissons, the property of a very
rich and successful artist. I made a silly bid for the whole lot as it tumbled at my feet and to my amazement it was
accepted without demur. I am therefore able to offer huge curtains, bedcovers, WALL hangings all rich silks,
tapestries, and velvets, late 19 C.,very shabby chic but suitable for anyone furnishing
a Scottish castle, Victorian pile, or baronial hall, or just a cosy snug, all at give-away
prices, some now at £10 per item, as I need space for another large consignment from
U.S. newly arrived.
One week laterThe lots described above have almost all gone, and most of
the American haul went today. Still available, two pairs of Pierre Frey heavy cotton prints, 10 ft drop, one blue/yellow,
the other terracotta shades, very reasonable as they have slight sun fade down leading edges, otherwise v.g.c.
Also 3 pairs of large Indian flowered chintzy curtains, with hand smocked gathering at top, very large, impressive colouring
and pattern, at £100 per pair -- need dry cleaning, they are probably by Pierre Frey too. My supplier, quite
frankly, had just the best of everything.
